Al Mansell, a REALTOR® from Sandy, UT, was the 2005 President of the National Association of REALTORS®.

Mansell, a REALTOR® for over 30 years, is principal broker-owner of Mansell Real Estate, in Sandy, UT. His real estate career began in 1969 with the founding of Mansell and Associates, while simultaneously co-managing his father’s paint company (along with two brothers). In addition to his real estate practice, Mansell served on the Utah State Senate for 12 years, leading as Senate President for four.

At the national level, Mansell has provided dedicated service to the Association over the course of 30 years. He served on numerous committees and forums and continues service to this day. He first served on the Board of Directors in 1985 and continues this service today. In 2004 he served as president-elect and as first vice president in 2003. He was a regional vice president in 1992, and has volunteered on a number of national committees, including chair of the Advisory and Strategic Planning committees in 1998.

During his NAR Presidency, Mansell oversaw record-setting support of the REALTORS® Relief Foundation in support of the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the South Asian tsunami. He guided the association during the transition as CEO Terry McDermott retired and the new CEO, Dale Stinton, assumed leadership of the organization. His fundraising and awareness efforts for the REALTORS® Political Action Committee Center proved instrumental in ensuring a stable and strong future for the REALTOR® Party. The National Association also launched a successful RESPA awareness campaign, secured a one-year prohibition preventing the U.S. Treasury Department from finalizing a rule that would allow banks to offer real estate brokerage services, and championed four real estate provisions in bankruptcy reform legislation enacted by Congress.

Mansell also serves his state and local REALTOR® associations in numerous capacities. He served as President of the Utah Association of REALTORS® in 1990 and chaired the state association’s Legislative Committee. He has received numerous awards, including Utah REALTOR® of the Year in 1985 and Salt Lake City REALTOR® of the Year in 1987. He was president of the Salt Lake Board of REALTORS® in 1983.

He is an active member of his community, raising funds for Salt Lake Community College and chairing the Utah Sports Commission. He also served as a trustee of Intermountain Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare providers in Utah.
