NAR recently issued a letter of supportpdf for legislation that would expand access to Association Health Plans (AHPs) to independent contractors, including real estate professionals. The “Association Health Plans Act of 2021” (H.R. 4547; S.896) would allow associations to offer group health insurance comparable to that of large employers and could provide members with comprehensive coverage at lower costs than traditional individual market plans. Ongoing litigation and subsequent Department of Labor action ended these attractive plans that were put in place under 2018 federal regulations, but Congressional action could revive these beneficial insurance solutions at a time when self-employed Americans continue to face rising health care costs.
