NAR staff attended a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on the upcoming decennial census. Census Bureau Director Dr. Steven Dillingham, and two representatives from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) provided testimony regarding the Census Bureau’s efforts regarding this year’s census. Members of the committee had many questions for the director regarding new technology, data security and privacy; census bureau hiring of census takers; and efforts by the Bureau to ensure accurate counts of hard to count communities. Director Bureau Dillingham ensured the committee that the Bureau is expecting a 60 percent response rate to the census survey, and that the Census Bureau is on track with meeting its internal goals to ensure an accurate and complete count.
