On October 12, 2021, Rohit Chopra was sworn in as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Earlier this month, the Senate confirmed Chopra on a narrow vote of 50-48. Chopra has served in previous roles as Commissioner on the Federal Trade Commission, and in his previous role at the Bureau as the Student Loan Ombudsman. Director Chopra will serve as the third permanent director of the Bureau following Director Kathy Kraninger. The Bureau will continue to work to protect and educate consumers, while also working to advance equity issues in financial services. Additionally, the Bureau will continue to work to protect consumers that are experiencing financial challenges and hardship due to the pandemic. NAR will continue to monitor changes and developments at the Bureau.
