ShareWASHINGTON (February 7, 2025) – Today, the National Association of REALTORS® President Kevin Sears sent a letter to Chairman Cassidy and Ranking Member Sanders offering NAR’s support for the nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary. The letter reads:
“On behalf of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), we offer our support for the nomination of Ms. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary to lead the U.S. Department of Labor.
“The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is a critical agency responsible for managing labor matters for the welfare of employees, job seekers, independent contractors and retirees within the United States. DOL must work to provide clarity, predictability, and consistency for American businesses and workers, especially in times of uncertainty. The Department must work efficiently and effectively to ensure that it develops regulations and practices that ensure our labor market and economy both thrive.
“NAR is committed to advancing homeownership and property rights for all, and a strong labor market and economy are necessary for Americans to make the dream of homeownership a reality. NAR is eager to work with Ms. Chavez-DeRemer on key issues that impact the housing industry and the broader economy. Ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of workers, while also protecting the interests of small businesses must remain a priority for Ms. Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary. Additionally, we look forward to working with Ms. Chavez-DeRemer on other key issues such as labor shortages throughout many sectors, including the skilled trades, homebuilding and construction industries which contribute to housing supply challenges; independent contractor matters, including workers’ ability to have autonomy and flexibility in how they work and are classified; expansion of labor opportunities for veterans, apprenticeship opportunities; pragmatic regulations; and innovation in the workforce.
“As a small business owner, former mayor, and former Member of Congress, Ms. Chavez-DeRemer is uniquely positioned to understand complex issues facing many workers, businesses, and industries. NAR urges the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to support Ms. Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination and move her vote quickly to the floor of the Senate.”
