When Nykia Wright took the helm at the National Association of REALTORS® on an interim basis in 2023, the trade association was reeling. One of the biggest challenges was a court decision that would dramatically alter the way real-estate agents who are members of the NAR are compensated. It’s not the first time Wright has led an organization in the midst of industry upheaval: She took over as CEO of the Chicago Sun-Times in 2018 after years of ownership changes and layoffs at the newspaper. Wright, who was named permanent CEO of the NAR in August, must now shepherd the organization as it faces difficulties including a housing affordability crisis and changes in compensation rules.
