Homeownership rates have fluctuated over the last several years, as the population of some major cities surges and others see declines. Many of the cities that have seen homeownership bloom the most have been located in the South, Southwest, the Mountain states, and the West Coast. Five of the top 20 cities are located in Florida, while four are in Texas.

Forbes recently culled data from the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau and 2014 American Community surveys to identify homeownership patterns among the nation’s 500 largest cities. The following are the top seven communities with the greatest increase in homeownership and homeownership rates over the last five years.

1. Conroe, Texas

Homeownership growth has jumped by 59% over the last five years.

2. Enterprise, Nev.

Homeownership growth in 5 years has rise byn 46.6% over the last five years.

3. San Tan Valley, Ariz.

Owner-occupied home growth has climbed by 33.8% over the past five years.

4. Indio, Calif.

Owner-occupied housing units have climbed by 39.4% over the last five years, while its homeownership rate rose to a new high of 70.6% in 2019.

5. Bonita Springs, Calif.

Homeownership has increased by 35.6% over the last five years while its owner-occupied housing units are at 80.6%.

6. Cape Coral, Fla.

The homeownership rate rose to 74.5% in 2019.

7. Sugar Land, Texas

Its homeownership rate has grown to 81.4% as of 2019.
