New Fairhaven 2.0 training platform raises the bar with challenging scenarios, actionable takeaways and a tour through NAR’s archives.
Fairhaven 2.0

Starting this year, all National Association of REALTORS® members will be required to complete approved fair housing training in sync with the three-year Code of Ethics cycle from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2027. You can satisfy this requirement online at no cost with Fairhaven 2.0, NAR’s innovative fair housing education requirement.

“NAR is raising the bar. Fairhaven goes beyond compliance to help members learn how to advocate for clients who experience housing discrimination,” says Alexia Smokler, NAR director of fair housing policy and programs.

“No consumer should miss out on a housing opportunity because of who they are. NAR is equipping members to stand up for clients and help build diverse, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.”

What’s Different?

This dynamic, immersive course uses a multimedia approach that challenges your thinking, provides resources to fill in knowledge gaps and leaves you equipped with new tools to confront housing discrimination.

Expanding on the previous program, Fairhaven 2.0 features new scenarios where members will confront issues including steering, sexual harassment, assistance animals, and lending discrimination.

In addition, the new Fairhaven Historical Society brings fair housing history to life with animated videos featuring documents and photos from NAR’s archives to illustrate concepts like redlining and restrictive covenants.

“Uncovering the history helps us understand how housing discrimination shaped the communities we live and work in. Fairhaven provides actionable tools for members to confront present-day discrimination and expand homeownership opportunities to people of all backgrounds,” Smokler says.

Note: As part of the ethics training requirement, NAR new-member applicants must now complete two hours of fair housing training, and existing members must complete two hours every three years as a condition of membership.
