As Election Day nears, now is the time to get involved with the REALTOR® Party.

We’re in the thick of the U.S. election cycle—a season that’s proven unpredictable and rollicking, and I’m referring not just to the national election but to state and local contests as well. As Election Day nears, I’m reminded of an old Italian saying, belle parole non pascono i gatti—literally, fine words don’t feed cats.

My grandmother introduced me to this phrase when I was a kid. She’d shout it as I ran out of the house, basketball in hand, even though moments earlier, I had promised to take out the garbage or wash the dishes. Belle parole non pascono i gatti. This simple Italian saying serves as a reminder that words alone don’t get the job done. What counts most is action.

As a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, you’re already a member of the REALTOR® Party, the only advocacy group in the U.S. that fights exclusively for home ownership, real estate investment, strong communities, and the free enterprise system. REALTORS® have a lot at stake during this November, and the REALTOR® Party is working hard to advance candidates and public policies that support the interests of the business and the property owners we serve.

The REALTOR® Party is currently engaged in 175 state and local elections nationwide. In 48 of these races, REALTORS® are running for office. Read more about a few of these contests on page 28. To ensure our voice continues to be heard, get involved with the REALTOR® Party today. With three simple steps, you can make a powerful impact.

VOTE. First, be sure you’re registered to vote, especially if you have recently moved. It may startle you to know that 17 percent of NAR members are not registered. Visit realtoractioncenter.com/registertovote to register and find your polling place.

ACT. Our national, state, and local associations are monitoring dozens of issues that affect or have the potential to affect your business. When an issue becomes urgent, we need to make our voices heard—usually quickly. Respond to Calls for Action from NAR and your state association.

INVEST. Nearly a third of NAR members contribute to the REALTORS® Political Action Committee. These members recognize legislative priorities, such as preserving the mortgage interest deduction and ensuring 1031 like-kind exchanges remain in the tax code. Setting rules that foster stable markets is essential to ensuring a healthy real estate industry.

It’s important to remember that RPAC isn’t affiliated with any political party. RPAC supports local, state, and federal officials who understand REALTOR® Party issues. Join your fellow members in making a powerful impact. Now is the time for action!
