An Education-First Approach

By the time she entered the real estate business in 2020, Monique Van Blaricom, 29, already had a mission-driven approach to the work, having worked at a nonprofit, The Root Cause Coalition, focused on health equity. “People having access to housing is so important,” she says, noting that secure housing is one of the key social determinants of health.

She has created a streamlined and informative approach to the homebuying process so that more people can find their way to homeownership.

“I walk every client through a detailed consultation so I can better understand their needs, and I have a weekly newsletter for prospective buyers and one for homeowners.” She believes in empowering her clients with information, so they feel confident throughout the process of acquiring or selling a home. She also wants them to have the information they need on how to properly care for their investment—something she says she wishes she had when she bought her first home.

As an agent who started her career during the pandemic, Van Blaricom also knows first-hand that the path often includes twists and turns, and that for clients and agents alike, the ability to pivot is a must.

“My whole career has been in ‘unprecedented times.’ It’s really taken some nimbleness to dig deep and thrive in the industry. I don’t have a ‘this is how it’s always been done’ mentality. I have a commitment to flexibility and innovation.”
