Running Toward His Goals

As a collegiate track and cross-country runner, Kris Everett learned lessons that he believes drive his current success as a real estate professional. “What most people don’t realize when they’re competing at a very high level is there’s usually only one time a year when everything goes well and you have that perfect race,” says Everett, 29. “The other 99% of the time, there’s something that prevents you from having the race you want. So, you get used to not having what you want. But you also realize that with every bad race you have, you’re one step closer to having that perfect race.”

That’s a pretty apt metaphor for Everett’s remarkable journey. He was working in a food truck in Los Angeles when he heard James Harris, the man who would become his real estate mentor, on a podcast. Everett contacted Harris and stayed in touch with him for nearly a year while Everett earned his license. Once he had a job, Everett approached the business with a runner’s tenacity and real estate savvy.

“In the beginning, it was very much about showing everyone that I’ll work as hard as I can,” says Everett, who generates the majority of his business from door-knocking and sending targeted e-marketing blasts to homeowners. “Now I’ve developed a rhythm that works.”

The result? Though he was just licensed in 2021, Everett was recently recognized among the top 5% of agents in his company.
