A Champion’s Mindset
Kenna Ramey knows a thing or two about setting and achieving goals. As a competitive swimmer, she twice qualified for the NCAA championships in the 100-meter butterfly race, and she was within .04 seconds of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic trials prior to the 2016 Olympics. Now as a real estate professional, she applies the same kind of discipline and hard work to reaching the top of her profession.
“There have definitely been seasons of doubt when it was really slow, I wasn’t converting, or I wasn’t able to get people under contract,” says Ramey, 27. “I just applied a swimming mindset: If this isn’t working, keep pushing. Try something else. It takes a lot for me to quit. Even in the tough seasons, I know I will have success if I continue to work toward it.”
Before she became serious about real estate, Ramey equated sales professionals with pushiness and insincerity. Once she realized that those preconceptions didn’t have to define her approach to sales, however, she dove in like a swimmer leaving the blocks.
“I just want to be known as the agent who cares so deeply,” she says. “I really try to curate every experience for my clients to be specific to them. If a client has a baby, I bring a baby gift. I write handwritten cards to thank them for their business. I want them to know that it’s so much more than a transaction to me. I want them to be able to come back to me and refer their friends to me, refer their family to me.”
When her swimming career ended, Ramey needed a new goal-oriented pursuit—and real estate has been the perfect fit.
“I definitely want to be a real estate agent for the rest of my career,” Ramey says. “I’m very competitive, and I aim to be a top performer as an agent.”
