Providing Ease in Trust Sales
Even in ideal circumstances, buying or selling a home can be an uncertain experience. Add the emotions associated with losing a loved one and the complexity that comes with navigating a trust, and it can be altogether overwhelming. Over the past few years, trust sales have become something of a specialty for Garrett Mann, 29. He has come to appreciate this unique opportunity to ease the burden for sellers who are processing their grief while also navigating challenges like clearing out treasured family possessions or updating a home that may still be in its original condition.
“It’s a very delicate process,” says Mann. “A lot of times the family members are very emotional. Some have an idea of what they’re doing, but many don’t. They may have a trust but not know how to get a property emptied or sort through items. I like to come in and simplify the process so family members can grieve.”
To do that, Mann will assume responsibility for organizing estate sales or preparing a property for sale. In some cases, he has even fronted the cost of repairs to enhance a listing.
That service aspect of being a real estate professional comes naturally to Mann. His mother is a teacher, and his father was a public defender before retiring. Mann always knew he wanted a job where he could help people, and with trust sales, he sometimes feels like a therapist as much as a salesperson. “Sometimes, the clients are crying on the phone just dealing with issues,” he says. “You have a lot of emotions going on. So, you want to treat them all so well and go above all their expectations so they’re going to refer you to their brother, their sister, their aunt.”
