Selling a Lifestyle

Like most real estate pros, Cole Mizak leads his buyer clients through homes for sale. Unlike most real estate pros, he might also take them mountain biking or snowmobiling through backcountry trails.

“It’s selling a lifestyle and sharing the love I have for Lake Tahoe with clients and customers,” says Cole, 29. “The majority of our buyers and sellers have come to the region for the same reasons I have.”

Cole moved to the Nevada side of the lake to attend college, primarily for a change of scenery from his hometown in south-central Pennsylvania. Quickly he connected with the crystal-clear waters, snow-crusted mountains, sandy beaches and evergreen forests, and decided to make a life there.

His original interest was to get involved in real estate development, but he quickly learned there’s no flat land available for building subdivisions. So, he switched gears and earned his real estate license when he was a junior at Sierra Nevada College, now the University of Nevada Reno. He graduated with a double major in global business management and finance and economics.

Cole, who says he is “big on structure and scheduling,” aims to get into the office early in the morning to free up his afternoons for outdoor time. That’s the plan, but clients come first, of course.

“It’s important to get outside,” he says. “Most people agree being outdoors lightens your mood.”
