Real Estate’s Hype Girl

Cheyenne McGriff had her first experience showing houses when she was young, acting as a kind of “hype girl” for her grandmother, who is an agent. McGriff would accompany her grandmother and clients on showings, and with every room they entered, McGriff would make a proclamation like: “Wow, what a beautiful view!” It’s not clear how much that helped the sales process, but watching her grandmother work made an impression on McGriff.

“I had an opportunity to see how much real estate allowed my grandma to stay involved in my life,” says McGriff, 28. “I knew she worked really hard, but she made it to every one of my volleyball games. She made it to every one of my plays. She just could always be there.”

McGriff joined her grandparents’ real estate team after earning her license, and the flexibility of the job became essential when McGriff’s husband—who owned his own contracting business—was injured on the job. Working as an agent allowed McGriff to support her family while traveling with her husband to out-of-state medical appointments and preparing for the birth of the couple’s first child.

“I’m lucky to be on the team that I am because I have such a fantastic built-in mentor that I continue to lean on and ask questions,” says McGriff. “My grandma and grandpa have so much knowledge that it puts me a step ahead.”
