Savoring the Journey
If Brittney McAllister’s 11-year-old self could see her now, she’d be both thrilled and shocked. McAllister’s career in real estate is exactly the job she dreamed about as a girl watching her mother get licensed. But her pathway in the industry was very different from what she imagined when she was young.
“Real estate is a weird world where it’s never ending. That’s the part that maybe 11-year-old Brittney didn’t recognize,” says McAllister, 28. You have to be really invested in the growth and the journey of building a business. One of the agents on my team kind of stumbled into real estate and joined my team. She’s been great, but she says, ‘I don’t have the passion for this that you do. You’re obsessed with real estate.’”
That obsession has taken McAllister on a breathtaking ride, from joining her mom’s team after getting licensed in 2015 to becoming a solo agent and ultimately building her own team. The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but McAllister loves where it’s headed.
“I set these goals and I run at them as fast as I can,” McAllister says. “That’s good and bad. I’ve had a lot of professional growth, and maybe growth is just another word for failure. I’ve learned setting goals isn’t as rewarding as the journey to get there.”
