Building an Eco-Friendly Real Estate Haven
Amber Berger started her own real estate company and then broke ground on a house with space for her brokerage’s office on a 20-acre lakefront lot. “Sustainability is my hobby,” says Berger, 29. “I would love to get solar panels, get some cattle and a chicken coop, and grow a garden.” Berger admits she doesn’t know anything about raising animals. “It’s an all-new learning experience.”
Her brokerage office still has exposed drywall as the build inches closer to completion. She finds ways to work around the construction and connect with her current and potential clients by meeting with them out in the community. Once the office is complete—sometime next year, Berger hopes—she will be looking to hire agents to share the space.
Berger and her husband, Andrew, who serves as the company’s office administrator, have been together since seventh grade. They now have two children, and he hopes to be fully licensed in real estate by the end of the year. “We are really good at working together. He has his tasks, and I have mine,” Berger says.
Berger’s passion for real estate has led to her involvement with the Lenawee County Association of REALTORS®, where she’s the youngest member who is a broker-owner. She co-chairs her association’s Young Professionals Network, and her goal is to help rookie agents increase their knowledgebase and professionalism. “We put on classes for new agents all the time that cover topics from filling out contracts to homeowners’ insurance.”
