A Resilient Journey

Last fall, Alex Derenne, 29, underwent hip surgery that would require six to 12 months of physical therapy. “While the recovery process presented its own set of challenges, I approached it with determination and a positive mindset.”

She also relied heavily on the connections she has gained through the Greater Milwaukee Association of REALTORS® YPN, for which she serves as vice chair. “I couldn’t drive for eight weeks. My YPN colleagues reached out and took me to showings with a leg brace and crutches. They helped me with no expectations in return.” Derenne adds that she puts her “heart and soul” into the network, typically working on it no less than five hours a week because “real estate can be one of the loneliest of industries if you don’t get out there. YPN is a natural sounding board, and it has people with the same ambitions and goals.”

Additionally, Derenne hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to meeting with her clients. She takes the time during their first conversation to build a rapport that often leads to friendship. Derenne meticulously reviews each step of the real estate transaction, discussing the options and potential outcomes of every scenario.

Her quick healing is also necessary because she is planning to walk down the aisle at her wedding in June. Derenne comes from a big Italian family, and her fiancé is the first in his Russian family to be born in America. “We are having a small wedding on an untraditional Thursday night with 30 of our closest friends and family at the restaurant where we got engaged.”
