The grandmillennial style—also known as “granny chic”—is resurrecting grandma’s living room, bringing back wallpaper, antiques, and lots of florals. The look of the familiar and cozy has grown popular among homeowners in recent years and is becoming even more prevalent in 2022.
Trends from years past are re-emerging but often with a more modern spin and in more contemporary palettes. Some of the hallmarks of the grandmillennial style include:
Flower Power: Floral and damask-printed wallpapers are trending as a backdrop in home décor and are being paired with more contemporary furnishings. Floral chintz is also a pattern popping up in more accessories, like throw pillows.
On the Fringe: This throwback trend is re-emerging on sofas featuring a tassel trim or throw pillows with fringed edging.
Bold Wallpaper: Wallpaper has become a hot trend once again for powder rooms, accent walls, and bedrooms. Florals and geometric shapes are popular patterns for the latest styles. (View more ideas: How to Use Wallpaper in Unexpected Ways)
Wicker and Bamboo Motifs: Grandmillennial style is also bringing back more wicker and bamboo. For example, woven cabinet doors are adding a nostalgic look to furnishings.
The X-Shaped Bench: Ottomans with an X-shaped base are coming back on the scene, appearing in a floral chintz pattern or velvet.
All Things Vintage: Grandmillennial style is centered on bringing back antiques and vintage looks, from French dinnerware to ancient Greek statues as accents.
Crystal Chandeliers: Adding some glam to the ceiling, crystal chandeliers are being hung throughout a home in entryways, living rooms, and bedrooms. A chandelier can even be the centerpiece of the bathroom.
